Dr Carl Reynolds BSc MSc DPMSA MBBS MRCP PhD
Consultant in Respiratory & Acute Medicine and Lung Cancer Lead at Homerton. I see private patients with lung and breathing concerns — a worrying scan or lung nodule, suspected lung cancer, a persistent cough, breathlessness, asthma or COPD — and give you a clear plan, quickly.
How I can help
As Homerton's Lung Cancer Lead I have a particular focus on the rapid assessment of suspected lung cancer — and I see the full range of lung and breathing problems privately. If something is worrying you, you don't have to wait.
As Homerton's Lung Cancer Lead, I offer rapid assessment of lung nodules, an abnormal chest X-ray or CT, or worrying symptoms — with prompt diagnostics (including bronchoscopy and EBUS-TBNA), staging and clear next steps.
Diagnosis and management of asthma, including difficult-to-control or adult-onset asthma and specialist treatment options.
Investigation of a persistent cough or unexplained breathlessness to find the cause and a treatment that works.
Diagnosis and management of COPD, recurrent chest infections and breathlessness — to keep you well and out of hospital.
Assessment of snoring, disturbed sleep and daytime sleepiness, with sleep testing and treatment such as CPAP where it's needed.
Abnormal scans, interstitial lung disease, occupational lung disease, pleural disease, and second opinions on an existing diagnosis.
Not sure if I'm the right person to see? Get in touch and my secretary will help.
Diagnostic & interventional procedures
When tests are needed, I carry out the key respiratory procedures myself — so your diagnosis isn't held up waiting for another team.
A thin camera examination of the airways to investigate symptoms, abnormal scans and infections, and to take biopsies.
Endobronchial ultrasound with needle sampling of lymph nodes — a key test for diagnosing and staging lung cancer accurately.
Assessment and treatment of fluid around the lung, including pleural aspiration and chest drain insertion.
About Dr Reynolds
I am a Consultant in Respiratory and Acute Medicine, and Lung Cancer Lead, at Homerton Healthcare NHS Trust. My clinical interests span lung cancer, asthma, interstitial lung disease, occupational lung disease and pleural disease, and I also advise the NHS Race and Health Observatory.
I qualified from University College London in 2008, trained in respiratory medicine in North West London, and completed a PhD in pulmonary fibrosis in 2019 at the Royal Brompton Hospital and the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
My approach is straightforward: take your concerns seriously, arrange the right tests without delay, and explain what's going on in plain language — so you leave with a clear understanding and a plan.
What to expect
Contact my secretary by phone or email to arrange an appointment in the Wednesday evening clinic. No GP referral is required for self-pay patients, though a referral letter is helpful if you have one.
We'll talk through your history and symptoms, examine you, and arrange any tests you need — bloods, lung function, X-ray or CT — often quickly.
You'll get a clear explanation of what's going on and what happens next, with a letter to you and (with your consent) your GP.
